Sunday, September 11th is going to be a big day at Zion. We will celebrate the 30 years that Pastor Summer has been here with a potluck luncheon in his honor. And we will be participating in the dedicated church-wide day of service, “God’s Work. Our Hands”.
The day will begin with worship at 9:30am at the church and then we will ALL move to the CEB where we will be packing up School Supply Kits for Lutheran World Relief. They will be distributed to children in need throughout the world. Our goal is to fill 302 bags (in honor of Zion’s 302nd Anniversary). The cost of a string bag plus the supplies is about $6.25. Donations toward this project are still being accepted. To date, we have received $867.
The sign up list for the potluck luncheon is in the narthex (or call the office). We all know that two of Pastor Summer’s favorite things are kids and potlucks. Bring your kids and bring a dish to share and be prepared to celebrate Pastor Summer.
We are going to need strong, sturdy shipping boxes to pack up the school kits. The filled boxes can’t weigh more than 40 pounds so we are guessing each box will hold about 15 bags. That means we will need about 20 boxes. If you are a fan of Amazon, please save your larger boxes and drop them at the CEB. Thank you!
