Social Ministry update -- by Rebecca Melick

October is Used Sporting Goods Collection month at Zion!
Social Ministry is teaming up with Let's Play it Forward, an organization that collects gently used sporting equipment to supply organizations and children in need in the US and internationally.  Look for our donation box at the CEB.  If you can help by collection through your school or sports team, please contact Rebecca Melick at (908)229-3744. Donations are also gladly accepted to help in the transportation costs to get the gear to its final destination.  We are collecting the following equipment: footballs, kickballs, soccer balls, baseball and soccer equipment, lacrosse equipment pinneys, orange cones and discs, volleyballs, roller blades, basketballs, hockey equipment, shin guards, tennis equipment, golf equipment and gently used sneakers.

Community Forum — “Talk Saves Lives” —  Wednesday, November 8th at 7:30 at the CEB
"Please don't think suicide can't happen in your family or circle of friends.  Five years ago, my son Luke ended his life.  He was an Eagle Scout, co-captain of his basketball team in high school and entering his sophomore year at the University of Illinois.  I thought I knew the warning signs... "   - Zion member, Jenny Heeman
Learn the warning signs and risk factors of suicide, and how together, we can help prevent it.  This program is open to all community members age 16 and up and presented by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, afsp.org  Please help spread the word about this special event.
