This is a new column at Good News from Zion. It’s a place for anyone to offer an observation or reflection on something that is happening at Zion. What prompted the idea for this column? Read on.
This past Sunday, during the sermon, the question was asked, “Where do you see the Holy Spirit at work?”. And a few minutes later we saw the Holy Spirit at work when the choir sang the anthem, “The Holy City” (you know - “Jerusalem! Jerusalem! Lift up your gates and sing Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna to your king”). The ten-member choir absolutely knocked it out of the park. Spine-tingling great. It made me wish the windows were open so the neighbors and passersby could have stopped and listened. Even the choir was a little surprised at how their voices filled the church. Thank you to Rod and the choir.
On another note, kudos to the humble Rebecca Melick (“It was no big deal”) and the Social Ministry Committee for spearheading the Oldwick Town-Wide Tag Sale. Yes, it was a lot of work. Yes, it gave us an opportunity to work together. Yes, it gave Zion a great presence in Oldwick. And yes, we raised over $2,500 for the local food pantries.
***If you have something you would like to say about the happenings at Zion, please send it to the church office. And if you have a better idea for naming this column, please send that to the office as well.
